The Housing Improvement Initiative is a group of friends who want to see progress in our community. Here’s the thing: we’re taking back our town, one abandoned house at a time. We created a collaborative concept to achieve results in designated areas, utilizing private/public partnerships. We’re down with PPP’s.

Our mission is to accommodate affordable housing for our workforce in the St. Joseph, Missouri region and to enhance community beautification in deteriorating neighborhoods.

This is how we do it:

We secured private funding to purchase our first abandoned house. Then we partnered with public entities to apply for available grants to help offset the rehabilitation costs. When we sell a restored home to a new homebuyer, we reinvest the proceeds into our revolving fund so we can rinse & repeat on the next home.

To take it one step further, which we always do, we’ve partnered with local subject matter experts to develop a curriculum for first-time homebuyers.
